Assalamu Alaikum.

For most people, “congregational prayer” means Taraweeh, the Friday prayer and the Eid prayer.

Unfortunately, this is not true for the men. Congregational prayer should include the five daily prayers. Most people seem to be unaware that there are lots of proofs to show that men should pray in congregation at the masjid.

Even if one were to assume that it was “just recommended”, then that should be enough reason to encourage the men to do it. One of the types of people to get the Shade of the Throne of Allah on the Day of Judgment will be a man whose heart is attached to the masjid. For more on the people who will get the shade, check out this post on my other blog.

Coming back to the congregational prayer, many women seem to get very confused as to how to join the congregational prayer if they come late.

So, here’s a nice book which covers all the issues related to congregational prayer in detail (it also has a full section on Taraweeh): Congregational Prayer by Shaikh Saalih As-Sadlaan
