Lecture: Ramadan – Reflections on Tawheed (must watch!)

by Umm Muawiyah

Assalamu Alaikum.

Finally what, you ask?

Finally, someone came out with a lecture entitled “Ramadan and Tawheed”.

I had already found an article entitled “Hajj and Tawheed” (check this post).

Now, all I need to do is find something on “Salah and Tawheed” and “Zakaah and Tawheed”, and I’ll be over the moon.

[If not, then I’ll just write on those topics myself, insha-Allah.]

Why is it so important? Because the last 4 pillars of Islam are different ways of implementating the first pillar of Islam, which is the statement of tawheed (worshipping Allah alone).

Sadly, many Muslims have no clue what tawheed is. They think that it is confined to knowing that there is one god.

Nope. There’s so much more to it than that.

When I was teaching my students about tawheed, one of my students asked (after seeing all the evidence for tawheed), “Why don’t they talk about this?”

Because Shaytan doesn’t want anyone to? If we know what tawheed is and we implement it, we’ll be happy in this world and we’ll get Paradise in the next. He doesn’t want that. He wants us to apply shirk (the opposite of tawheed) so that we can all be in hell with him.

Think I’m joking? Please read the story of Adam (alaihissalam) and Iblis. Then you’ll understand that the real battle going on in the world is the battle between tawheed and shirk.

Perhaps you think you already all about tawheed? Then I’m pretty certain that you don’t. Why do I say that? Because only an ignorant person would say that they know everything (because they are ignorant of the fact that they are ignorant).

The people of knowledge, on the other hand, are different: the more knowledge they gain, the more they realise their ignorance.

One of my friends cum students had once told me that the more she learnt about Islam, the more she realised how little she knew. I told her that this was good because now she was actually beginning to learn.

So, brothers and sisters, please learn about Islam and tawheed (which is the foundation of Islam) and don’t say that you know everything because you don’t. Even if you were the greatest scholar on this planet, you would not  know everything. Only Allah knows everything.

Once you study tawheed, you will realise how much your perspective changes. I’ve seen the difference between those who have studied tawheed and those who haven’t (these people included teachers, classmates, friends, students, etc). The former were more stable and much happier. Why? Because they knew about Allah and His Attributes. That’s what tawheed is.

Tawheed is the solution to any problem. Yes, I mean it. Mention the problem and I’ll explain why tawheed is the solution. Most of the issues that people deal with today come about either because of a lack of tawheed or a complete absence of it.

For example, why is there so much corruption in this world today? One reason is because many people do not fear Allah as He should be feared. They do not know that he is strong in punishment and swift in reckoning. So because they are lacking in this aspect of tawheed, they cause corruption on the earth.

Here’s a very, very, very nice lecture (okay, I’m still in Part 2 but it’s excellent so far) about Ramadan and Tawheed.

It’s about an hour long. Stop your work and watch it. Trust me, it will clear up many issues for you. May Allah reward the shaikh.
