The most wonderful story that I ever heard…

by Umm Muawiyah

Assalamu Alaikum.

The lecture was entitled “The Great Scholars of Our Time”.

However, the story isn’t centered around them, except that Shaikh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) was one of those involved in the process.

Why did I find this story so amazing? Because when 99% of us are confronted with such things (you’ll understand when you listen to the story), we think “What can we do?” and then we say “We’ll do dua for you”.

However, in this story, the hero (Brother Falah) didn’t say this. He TRIED to do SOMETHING though in his position he really couldn’t do anything. After this, Allah opened the doors to victory. This story just shows that we need to take the first step, no matter how small we think that step is.

No, I’m not telling you the story. You have to listen to it.

[Note: The lecture is in Arabic along with a live translation after it. The story starts at 4 mins 30 secs. The whole lecture is fabulous though.]

May Allah greatly reward Brother Falah, Shaikh Abu Bakr Al-Jazairy (rahimahullah), Shaikh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) and all those involved.

      Wa Alaikum Assalam Sister.

The audio works for me (but sometimes, the audio player in WordPress does tend to act funny).

I’ve added a download link as well.

      Hope that helps, insha-Allah.

I realise why it wasn’t working now! I’ve got an iPad and since I’ve started using it I rarely come onto proper laptops/computers which is why I couldn’t access it. I’m on my laptop now and alhumdullilah both the audio player and the link are working fine!

      Wa Alaikum Assalam.

      Summary? That’ll spoil the fun…

But it’s Ramadan, so here goes:

Brother Falah (a graduate of Madinah University) finds some Somali brothers bawling their eyes out (at 11:30 in the night). He asks them what’s wrong. They say that some of their fellow Somalis who are Ahlus Sunnah are going to be executed the next morning. (The leader of Somalia at that time was apparently a dictator.)

Brother Falah has no idea what to do. He goes to the house of Shaikh Abu Bakr Al-Jazairy (rahimahullah) (he was a lecturer in Masjid An-Nabawi) and bangs on the door. He’s told that the shaikh is sleeping. He says “Tell him it’s Falah Al-Kuwaiti!”

The Shaikh wakes. He meets the group and is very upset to find out about the execution that will take place. He says: “The only one who can help us after Allah is Shaikh Abdul Azeez ibn Baaz!”.

Shaikh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) was the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia at this time. Shaikh Abu Bakr calls and is told that he is asleep. He demands that Shaikh Ibn Baaz be woken up.

The Shaikh wakes. He talks to Shaikh Abu Bakr and is VERY upset to find out about the execution that will take place in a few hours. He sent 4 of the 6 people there to do dawah and call to the way of Ahlus Sunnah. He says that he will call them back.

He calls back (I think it was an hour or two later) and tells his secretary Ibrahim to tell them the story:

He called Prince Abdullah (who is currently the King) and was told that the prince is sleeping. He asked that he be woken up, otherwise he was going to come all that way to talk to him!

[One thing I love about this story is the sheer comedy involved. Everybody is doing the “Wake him up immediately!” routine. Gotta love it.]

The person on the phone relented and woke up the prince. The prince was horrified to find out what was happening and said something like “He (Somali Dictator Guy) will not do it!”

He calls up Somali Dictator Guy (sorry, couldn’t catch his name) and tells him to stop the execution. Somali Dictator Guy agrees (immediately) because he can’t say no to the Guardian of the Two Masjids. (Am I the alone one who thinks that he behaved more like a pussycat than a dictator in this conversation? Not that I’m complaining, of course!)

So, the execution which was supposed to take place in a few hours does not to so – in part because Arab men know how to make people wake up at night, alhamdulillah.

Isn’t this a wonderful story? [Yes, I know. I probably spoilt the whole thing which was why I asked everyone to listen to the tape.]

I was particularly impressed by Brother Falah’s action because that was what started off the whole chain. May Allah accept it from him and grant him Paradise because of this deed of his.
