An Introduction to the Lord of the Worlds – Day 16

Assalamu Alaikum.

[Note: I started this section on Day 10. I mentioned 5 Names there. However, I added Ar-Raaziq and Al-Qayyum. Today and tomorrow, insha-Allah, I’ll also be adding Al-Kafeel, Al-Haseeb, and Al-Kaafi to that list, because they are all related to the issue of tawakkul.]

I’d like to add one more point to yesterday’s post:

[I just found out about it which is why I’m adding it today.]

One reason for Allah using the Name Al-Hayy (the Ever Living) for the One that should be relied upon is that the idols that the pagans (at the time of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)) worshipped were dead:

وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّـهِ لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ

أَمْوَاتٌ غَيْرُ‌ أَحْيَاءٍ ۖ وَمَا يَشْعُرُ‌ونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ

“Those whom they (the polytheists) invoke besides Allsh have not created anything, but are themselves created. (They are) dead, lifeless, and they know not when they will be raised up.” [Surah An-Nahl (16) : 20-21]

So, these idols were dead so why bother relying upon them?

An Introduction to the Lord of the Worlds – Day 15

Assalamu Alaikum.

[Note: I haven’t forgotten to reply to all your comments. It’s on my to-do list (along with a whole bunch of other stuff…).]

So, Allah says that because He is the Ever Living One, we need to put our trust in Him.

Think about it. Anyone else that we might depend upon like a family member, a friend, etc is just a created being who is going to die one day.

And what happens if they die BEFORE us?

Are we going to rely upon someone else?

And what happens if they too die BEFORE us?

See how it goes? None of them can be relied upon completely.

Allah, on the other hand, will never die so we should feel completely relaxed and put our trust in Him.

An Introduction to the Lord of the Worlds – Day 14

Assalamu Alaikum.

[So, I write that I’m going to continue this series because I’m enjoying learning about the Names of Allah. After this, I get a flood of comments asking me to continue the series.

Did I miss something?]

The dua (supplication) which I referred to in yesterday’s post is as follows:

[Congratulations to the one who guessed it correctly.]

Anas ibn Malik (radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said to Fatima (radiallahu anha): “What prevents you from listening to what I have advised you with, or saying at the onset of every morning and evening: “O Ever Living One, O Self Sustaining One, by Your Mercy I seek assistance, rectify for me all my affairs, and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of any eye.” [Sahih At-Targhib Wat-Tarhib, Hadeeth No. 661]

What can we learn from this hadeeth?

An Introduction to the Lord of the Worlds – Day 13

Assalamu Alaikum.

7) Unlike the creation, Allah is Ever Living and will never die.

That might seem terribly obvious but again, our actions belie our words.

When one looks at some people and how much they run after this dunya (worldly life), one can only wonder if they truly believe that they will die one day.

And let’s be honest: Don’t many of us avoid thinking about death? Don’t we like to pretend that it will never come?
