Seriously Short Reminder No. 22: Drink lots of water…

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

Please, don’t even think about drinking less than eight glasses a day, especially if you live in a country where summer is40+ degrees.

Otherwise, you’re going to be fatigued (due to the dehydration). Some people might also contract UTI.

So, be a good girl/boy and drink lots of water*.

[*In the first few weeks, you might need to make sure that you are within running distance of a toilet.]

What Umm Abdillah misses about Ramadan…

Assalamu Alaikum.

Remember when I asked you what YOU missed about Ramadan?

Well, about 6 sisters replied, alhamdulillah.

I liked Sister Umm Abdillah’s reply a lot. It was a good reminder for me so I decided to post it so that everyone could read it.

[I took her permission to post it and I edited it slightly (grammar and spelling).]

So here goes:

“I miss the feeling of getting higher rewards for our good deeds and the wish for giving more sadaqah (charity) and reciting more Quran.

I miss searching for Laylatul Qadr by doing more qiyam (night prayers) in the last 10 nights.

I miss everyone getting together due to the earlier Ramadan timings.*

[*Umm Muawiyah says: In the UAE (like many other Muslim countries), we have shorter work and school timings in Ramadan, alhamdulillah.]

I miss everyone listening out for the Maghrib adhan.

I miss sending and receiving iftar plates full of food.

Although I miss Ramadan a lot, writing this comment and reading other people’s comments made me realise that we could still be doing all those things and continue to get that blessed feeling.

Insha Allah, we should try to prepare for the next Ramadan by doing some of those lovely “Ramadan” things if we really did miss them so much. There’s nothing stopping us from doing some of those things now!

This question made me think of reinstating some of those things insha Allah!

How quickly we forget and get deceived by Shaytan. We don’t have to wait for Ramadan to do good deeds, so I’d urge everyone reading this to pick some or even one of their usual Ramadan habits and start doing it again.”

As the sister asked, what is stopping us from doing those things that we miss?

That’s something that each of us needs to ponder over….

And to Sister Umm Abdillah: Jazakillahu kheira for the great advice.
