Seriously Short Reminder No. 26: Don’t let the wolves eat you up…

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

“What wolves?”

These two:

ما ذئبان جائعان أرسلا في غنم ، بأفسد لها من حرص المرء على المال والشرف ، لدينه

Ibn Kab ibn Malik Al-Ansari narrated from his father (radiallahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam): “Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful than a person craving after wealth and status, is to his Deen (Religion).” [Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadeeth No. 2376. Seriously Short Reminder No. 10: Use it. Don’t hoard it…

Assalamu Alaikum.

Use what, you ask?

Well, two things in particular:

1) Use your wealth for beneficial things that are pleasing to Allah. Don’t hoard it in the bank because it will NOT benefit you that way!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Someone might say “I’ve saving for the future!”

Three questions to that person:

a) Did the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) do this?

b) Can you guarantee that you’ll live for that future?

c) Allah is Ar-Razzaq i.e. the one who provides. In reality, we need Him, not the money.

2) Use your knowledge i.e. apply what you’ve learnt or teach it to someone else. Don’t just hoard it by learning more and more and more without doing anything with it!

I recall reading that Imam Ibn Hazm (rahimahullah) stated that those who don’t share their knowledge are more stingy than those who don’t share their wealth, because knowledge does not lessen when shared.

So, let us ask ourselves what we do with our wealth and our knowledge.
